Frazetta by Dian Hanson - I bought this book because my local comic book store owner, Kyle, is obsessed with Frank Frazetta. Seriously. If you talk to him for more than five minutes he will bring up Frank Frazetta. He actually has a rather impressive collection of Frazetta's own personal sketches. Kyle is a published comic book author and artist, so he often gets young artists asking him for advice. His number one piece of advice is to study Frazetta. While I was in Paris I went to Album Comics as any good comic-loving tourist does and wound up buying this book. I haven't started it yet, but I look forward to learning more about Kyle's hero.
The Count of Monte Cristo has always been one of my favorite books ever since I first read it for school my freshman year of high school. I always enjoyed reading the books we were assigned (I was probably the only student who actually read all the books we were assigned), but this one was the only book I read ahead for enjoyment. It captivated me with its detailed storylines, rich characters, and mood. A few months ago while visiting my boyfriend, we watched the PBS Masterpiece series for the Count of Monte Cristo with his parents. The series was pretty good considering the impossible task of adapting such a complicated story. It left out some of my favorite plot lines, but it didn't feel like the story was lacking. My boyfriend also loves the Count of Monte Cristo and so throughout the entire time we watched the show we were saying "Wait did this happen in the book?, "I think it happened this way instead.", and "I forgot about this part!" So after watching the series I decided to reread it by listening to an audiobook version. I am on chapter 12 of the unabridged text.
The Great Gatsby was one of the books I had to read my sophomore year of high school. I was very excited to read F. Scott Fitzgerald's most famous book. I knew I would love it, but unfortunately my sophomore year, I can confidently say, was the worst year of my life to date. I was severely struggling with my mental health, and so I was not in a headspace to enjoy this book. I mostly skimmed it just so I could get my assignments done. Ever since, I have wanted to reread it. When I was looking for a book to bring with me to France, I chose The Great Gatsby. It's short, entertaining, and I had been eating to reread it. I began reading it in the airport and only made it 51 pages in while on vacation.
The Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite shows of all time. It's wonderfully written characters have charmed me since day one. I am (you can mock me for this) on my 6th rewatch of the show (all within less than two years since first starting it).
I watched Project Hail Mary with my boyfriend's family about one week after my dog, Lucky, passed away. I don't know if I do or don't recommend watching that movie after your dog dies. Losing Lucky made the heavy themes of death and companionship made it hit twice as hard. It moved me so much that I made my parents watch it with me once I returned home. I have seen my dad cry three times in my life, and the third was while watching Project Hail Mary. After that experience I decided to read the book. I began listening to the audio version and I have mainly listened to it while driving to and from visiting my boyfriend. I am currently on chapter 25.
